Journalism Development Programme

Building compelling stories that matter. This isn't about churning out articles—it's about developing a journalist's instinct for what readers actually care about and the skills to deliver it properly.

What We're Actually Teaching

Look, journalism schools often focus too much on theory and not enough on the messy reality of deadline-driven newsrooms. We've built this programme around what actually happens when you're trying to file a story by 5pm.

You'll work with editors who've spent years in Malaysian media. They know what works here—from crafting headlines that grab attention in a crowded digital space to interviewing sources who might not want to talk.

The programme runs for eight months starting February 2026, with sessions twice weekly. We keep groups small because good feedback needs time and attention.

How This Programme Works

We've structured everything around practical application. Theory matters, but you'll spend most of your time actually writing and editing.

Story Development

Finding angles that haven't been beaten to death. Learning to spot what makes a pitch worth pursuing and what's just noise.

Research Methods

Digging deeper than the first page of Google. Building source networks and verifying information before you run with it.

Writing Practice

Weekly assignments with real editorial feedback. You'll rewrite more than you'd like, but that's how you get better.

Interview Skills

Getting people to open up requires technique. We cover everything from prep work to handling difficult conversations.

Digital Publishing

Understanding how stories perform online. SEO basics, social media strategy, and why headlines matter more than ever.

Ethics & Law

Navigating defamation, privacy issues, and the line between aggressive reporting and reckless journalism.
